Large part assembly is packaging parts for kits that are larger than small fastener kitting. This means that the parts themselves are larger like heavier bolts, nuts, screws that cannot go through normal packaging machines. This also means that there may be many fasteners in multiple bags that go into a master package like a box, heavy bag, or even directly onto the pallets. These parts need special attention and scales to be able to weigh them because of the complex nature of the kit as a whole. It takes a different process and many stages to become a final kit through large part assembly.

Master bagging, or master kitting, is the process of grouping kits together in larger kits for different purposes of the end-user. This means there are standard kits a cabinet installer might use to install a cabinet door. Then there is the number of kits within a bigger set, so the number of cabinet doors the installer handles in a day or for a particular job.

Kitting is putting several items into a specific container to make it easier to use the products. Instead of counting eight bolts, eight washers & eight nuts out of a large box of fasteners to use/assemble something, the parts have been pre-counted into smaller usable quantities. This group of items can then go into a master carton with the other needed items or be used at an assembly line for efficiency & speed.

How you build and review your strategy varies. You can see which areas may have drained you in the last year when reviewing your expenses. You might find that your packaging and distributing costs were outrageous or too much to justify doing on your own. Maybe your end-user gave feedback that your packaging was inconvenient or took a lot of time to sort.
